Old Lisbon
It was a rainy day. Shot from the Graca Church, the image shows the crammed houses and small streets. It is an old world city that gives you some idea of life in 14th and 15th centuries.
Narrow, Very Narrow
This is only real way to appreciate how narrow the streets and living are in Old Porto. They are truly this narrow. Obviously, made for walking. But no doubt in the 14th and 15th centuries carts moved merchandise and food up these streets, not far from the Douro River.
These Lines are Made for Drying
Porto terraces are used for drying clothes and sheets and rugs. It's common through the old city's of Porto and Lisbon. Notice, too, the six panel tile of the Virgin Mary on the left.
Red Tile Roofs Everywhere
Old Lisbon at dusk. Some of the buildings come to life as the sun sets.
Close Living
Another view that demonstrates life in Old Lisbon. Homes built on steep streets without elevators and the conveniences that are taken for granted in US.
Porto from the Dom Luis I Bridge
The Dom Luis I Bridge spans the Douro River is a natural tourism attraction. Safe walkways and spectacular vista. This image also shows the popular waterfront, steep walkways in this stunningly beautiful city.
Walking back from Notre Dame along one of the side streets, I saw this gentleman waiting for a bus. The scene was so French, yet so universal. The patient, relaxed man waiting. The bike chained to a sign. The mid-street bus stop. People walking to and from oblivious. Shops getting ready to open. So French. So Universal. Trip the shutter.
I wanted a different view of the iconic tower other than the traditional snap that is taken from the Trocadero. Heading over to the Invalides to see Napoleon tomb, I was taken by this view, against the clouds and blue sky. Wide angle lens.
The tower is incredibly beautiful at night. The problem in the fall is Paris gets cold and often windy. Frankly, you find yourself working quickly, especially since thousands of others are nearby. The tower is really quintessential Paris.
I couldn't get over the number of vendors with their small Effiel Towers. Even portable lights to light them. Negotiate the price? Sure. Did I purchase one? Nope!
I wanted to get a shot of the tower that showed the Seine and the traffic bridge that runs undernearth it. This is a better perspective than directly across from it at the Trocadero. Damned impressive.
Caught this sunrise, just as it was coming up over the
horizon. The sun's flare is not from a filter, but rather
from the high quality Canon L lens. Yes, there's post production,
thanks to DxO and Nik's Efex 5, super software.
